INTERVIEW: India homeland security policy lacks consistency and coordination,says national security expert

"There are two crucial challenges in the Indian homeland security space at the moment: recognizing that a serious threat of terrorism exists, and addressing it properly, consistently and in a coordinated manner," Maroof Raza, an expert on India security and strategic affairs and a former Army Officer, told Global Security Finance. "Most of the threats come from across the border, in Pakistan, with a view to disrupt the Indian secular model, but there are also threats of internal and local insurgencies between different ethnic or cultural groups that seek recognition from the Indian government, especially in the North of India," he adds.
